The Eclipse is Coming!

The Eclipse is Over!
Posted on 04/08/2024

We are excited to announce an educational opportunity for our students to observe a solar eclipse on April 8th. This rare celestial event provides a unique learning experience, and we want to ensure that our students can safely and responsibly enjoy this phenomenon. During the day of the event, indoor recess will occur to ensure we can properly supervise all students during the afternoon of the Solar Eclipse. We have purchased certified solar eclipse glasses for students who will be going outside during the event. We have a limited number available for families to purchase if you would like a pair for parents or siblings.

Our Kindergarten to Grade 5 classrooms will have the opportunity to view the solar eclipse via livestream broadcast. This will allow them to witness the event in a safe and controlled environment where teachers can facilitate discussions and provide educational context.

For our Grade 6 to 8 students, we are arranging for them to view the solar eclipse via live television and live outside with proper eclipse glasses provided. This hands-on experience will allow them to witness the eclipse in real-time, enhancing their understanding of astronomy and natural phenomena. Safety is our utmost priority, and we will ensure that students are equipped with approved eclipse glasses and supervised by staff during the viewing.

We understand that some parents may have concerns regarding their child's participation in the eclipse viewing. A permission slip is being sent home this week for parents to sign. If you have any reservations or wish your child to opt out of the viewing, please notify their classroom teachers.

For both Early Years and Middle Years students, we will incorporate related educational activities and discussions before and after the event to maximize the learning experience and ensure that students understand the significance of what they observe.

We encourage parents to discuss the solar eclipse with their children at home and reinforce the importance of using proper eye protection when viewing such events.

Thank you for your support in providing enriching educational experiences for our students. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,

Mr. Thomson

Principal
