Understanding ADHD

RRVSD Workshop topic:

ADHD seems to affect people differently. How does it affect the brain and how does it impact people? This workshop is designed for parents/caregivers of children from K to grade 12. Presenters will help clarify what ADHD is and what it is not. Attendees will learn how to best support a child living with ADHD.


Melanie Bazin BSW, RSW

Melanie has been a social worker for 14 years. She has worked at Child and Family Services, The Canadian Centre for Child Protection as well as The Addictions Foundation of Manitoba before becoming a school social worker with the Red River Valley School Division. Melanie obtained her BSW at the UofM. She has also completed various courses and training focusing on addictions and attachment. Outside of work Mel enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, travelling, camping, sports, and being outdoors.


Jill Siemens, MSW, RSW

Jill started her career as a social worker by working with refugees in South Africa. Since then she has focused on working with children and families through child and family services, sexual assault and crisis counselling, short-term counselling, and now as a school social worker with RRVSD.  Jill completed her Master of Social Work at the U of M with a focus on trauma counselling and trauma-informed practice. Outside of work Jill enjoys travelling the world and spending time with her partner.


Joanne Lariviere, BSW, RSW

Joanne has been a social worker for 12 years. She has worked in Community Mental Health as well as with the Jordan’s Principle Program before becoming a Mental Health Worker with the Red River Valley School Division. Joanne obtained her BSW at the UofM and is currently completing the practicum component for her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. Outside of work Joanne enjoys spending time with her three children, gardening, biking, camping, playing and watching sports, and spending time outdoors.    


Heidi Harder, BSW student

Heidi is currently a BSW student at the U of M. She is completing her second field practicum with the Red River Valley School Division and is looking forward to graduating in the spring. Outside of school Heidi enjoys time with family & friends, reading, playing piano, and being outdoors.

Childcare drop-off: 5:30pm to 6:00pm

Time: 6:00pm to 7:30pm

Location: Morris School
